At Hurst Green School we have one class in each year group, with a maximum class size of 30. Each of these has a highly experienced teacher with at least one teaching assistant sometimes more. We also have a trained member of staff in Reading Recovery, a trained ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) and a Learning Mentor.
The School day begins with registration at 9:15 am and finishes at 3:15 pm and there is an assembly every day. Once a term, we have class assemblies on Wednesday mornings when parents/carers are very welcome to come along and see the children showcase their work and help the children celebrate their successes. The children have a morning break when they all receive a free piece of fruit. Milk is also available to all our children through Cool Milk at School Ltd; this is free for children aged under 5 or those entitled to the pupil premium grant (entitlement to free school meals when they reach Junior school).
Lunchtime is from 12:15 pm to 1:15 pm. Children can either have a school dinner, cooked by our school cook, or bring their own packed lunch. Since September 2014 all infant children are entitled to receive a free school lunch. During lunchtime the children are cared for by the midday supervisors who are also our Teaching Assistants. They also supervise their lunchtime play which is either in the front playground or our large playing field.
